About the Role

The London Borough of Havering is looking to recruit a Youth Support Worker (Children’s) to contribute to the delivery of an effective children’s social care service as part of a social work team, improving outcomes for children and young people.

If successful in your application for the role, you will/will be:

  • Are you passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of children and young people?

  • Are you a qualified Youth Worker with a recognised JNC qualification in youth work at Level 3 or above?

  • Do you have a range of experience in delivering quality programmes and provisions in line with the NYA curriculum for young people 11-25 years old?

  • And do you have strong engagement skills and committed to working with children and young people?

If so, we invite you to join us in our mission to elevate our local authority's Youth Service, situated within our Starting Well Department. We are looking for an experienced qualified youth worker to join our busy Youth Work Team in the London Borough of Havering.

Work will include:

  • Detached (Street Based) Youth Work

  • Youth club centre-based sessions

  • 1:1 Targeted youth support

  • Work within schools and other community settings

Detached youth work uses the principles and practice of informal education to engage young people in a constructive dialogue about their needs, interests, concerns and lifestyles to support them in their personal and social development.

The role will require you to be present at and around key identified hot spots to deliver our detached provision with the aim of reducing youth violence and empower young people to help break the cycle of violence and harm, and to contribute to our commitment of reducing gang involvement and youth violence in the borough.

During the summer/school holiday periods more flexibility will be needed in terms of activities and locations. However, the outcomes will remain the same with regards to approaching and engaging with individuals and groups of young people, in places and spaces they chose to be. A key contributor to success will be the ability to build relationships with young people and their communities to help young people to stay safe whilst reducing anti-social behaviour.
