Your new role: As the Payroll Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that all payroll operations run smoothly. You'll be the go-to person for resolving any payroll-related inquiries and complete accurate and timely remuneration for our colleagues. You will establish strong relationships with both internal partners and the payroll provider, providing seamless payroll process at all times.

As the Payroll Specialist, you will be responsible for the overall payroll function, ensuring your support and availability throughout crucial periods of the monthly payroll calendar. Additionally, you will lead various projects focused on process improvement, high-level reporting, and data cleansing to ensure continuous enhancements in our payroll operations.

Salary: £26,000 - £28,000 pa

  • Ensure all fixed and variable payroll-related data, including information on new starters, leavers, and variable pay elements, is captured in BambooHR and seamlessly transferred to payroll upload files. 
  • Responsible for completing thorough payroll checks to ensure the accuracy and integrity of payroll data before authorising payment. 
  • Proactively manage and resolve all payroll-related queries, including complex and technical issues, with a high level of professionalism and in a timely manner. 
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and the payroll provider to address specific payroll challenges. Drive continuous improvement initiatives through the analysis of key performance indicators (KPIs) and data-driven insights. 
  • Oversee and conduct all necessary reconciliations, controls, and risk management processes to ensure the accuracy and compliance of company payrolls. 
  • Ensure strict adherence to Auto Enrolment and Real-Time Information (RTI) requirements, as well as all relevant HMRC regulations. 
  • Complete all month-end administrative tasks efficiently, ensuring that all payroll-related processes are finalised and documented. 
  • Take ownership of the entire payroll lifecycle, from data entry to final payment, ensuring a smooth and efficient process. 
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to continuously enhance internal payroll processes, driving operational excellence and efficiency. 

Experience  

  • (Essential) Previous experience working within a payroll role (or similar), with 2+ years of experience. 
  • (Desirable)  Experience working with ‘RSMUK’ and using ‘BambooHR’ systems.

  • Maintain updated knowledge of current payroll legislation, including Income Tax, Court Orders, National Insurance (NI), Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP), Statutory Sick Pay (SSP), Statutory Paternity Pay (SPP), Statutory Adoption Pay (SAP), Student Loans, records retention periods, and statutory changes. Applies this knowledge to ensure compliance and accuracy in payroll processing. 
  • Contribute to team objectives by building strong relationships with all stakeholders. Work collaboratively to achieve shared goals and fosters a positive team environment. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint to enhance productivity, data analysis, and reporting. 
  • Manage multiple projects while maintaining focus on priorities. Utilises effective time management strategies to ensure high-quality outcomes. 
  • Solid understanding of general business operations, enabling informed decision-making and contributing to the organisation's overall success. 
  • Display creativity and proactivity in problem-solving. Shows a strong desire to learn and grow, continuously seeking opportunities for personal and professional development.
