Role overview 

We are looking for a new Healthcare Assistant to join our Bristol team. This role will work across Newmedica’s Bristol locations at Aztec West & Clifton which will be 40 hours over 4 days per week, including weekends on a rota basis.

 

The Healthcare Assistant will have an active role in the theatre pathway, working with patients and the full multidisciplinary team to ensure a safe and successful patient journey. Initially trained in diagnostic testing, the Healthcare Assistant will then move into a theatre-based role where they will be trained in the areas of Admissions, Theatre and Discharge. During admissions the role will involve working with patients to ensure their records are up to date, that they have all of the necessary information, and importantly that they are supported and prepared for their surgery. In theatre the Healthcare Assistant will support in the preparation of theatre, assist in conducting essential checks, and will work with the scrub nurse and theatre team to ensure that theatre processes and protocols are maintained at all times. During discharge, the Healthcare Assistant role will be patient focused, providing refreshments, ensure that individuals have all the necessary information for post-surgical care, and completing documentation for discharge. This includes dispensing medications under supervision following completion of competency assessments which full training will be provided.

 

The healthcare assistant role is varied and training will be provided in all areas. Once established within the role, the Healthcare Worker will have the opportunity to move forward into formal scrub training program supported by Newmedica.

 

We need someone who is process driven and also incredibly patient focused. They will need to put patients at ease whilst also maintaining a high level of accuracy in record keeping and documentation.  

 

What skills and experience do I need? 

We’ll provide training so experience isn’t always needed, but the following things will be  

advantageous: 

  • Minimum of GCSE, or equivalent, in Maths and English
  • A passion for healthcare and supporting patients.
  • An excellent grasp of the English language, both verbally and in written format.
  • Proven clinical and or administrative skills with the enjoyment of the routine and rhythm of a process driven and regulated environment.
  • A competent user of computer systems and programmes.
  • Committed to deliver consistently high standards of care to patients.
  • The desire for, and commitment to, continuous professional development.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare or surgical environment is an advantage.
