Benefits of a Learning Support Mentor:
Rates of pay £9.00 per hour
Term time only (as determined by the college)

Provide learning mentor support to students with learning difficulties and or disabilities, emotional and behavioural needs, to integrate into the college environment
Escort and assist students, including those with mobility difficulties to get in and around college, this may involve pushing wheelchairs. Personal care e.g., Toileting, feeding, to meet the individual needs in the support plans
Assist with detailed individual assessments of students needs inline with the college or departmental procedures
Review and amend strategies on a regular basis, assist in the implementation of detailed assessments, monitor and review support strategies
Complete and record monthly evaluations around identified learners
Carry out instructions from the Learning Support Coordinator and to liaise on a day-to-day basis with teaching staff responsible for the courses involved
Help with the follow up of student attendance problems, assist teaching staff and departmental managers in the identification of reasons for poor attendance and student retention
Attend learning mentor team meetings and key worker meetings on a regular basis
Provide detailed relevant written information to support EHCP reviews around the care/support of identified learners
Undertake staff development and training as appropriate
Take appropriate responsibility for the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of children and/or vulnerable adults
Work at any college site, as required, to support the effective delivery of the service
Accompany students on curriculum related visits
Act as an advocate and encourage self-advocacy, while actively encouraging students to be independent
Act as an identified point of contact for students
Relay student concerns and issues to the Learning Support Coordinator and teaching staff
Contribute to the orderly conduct of students in the relevant centres
Assist in the modification of teaching materials for students
Scribe and read for students
Undertake any other duties as may be reasonably expected of the post holder, as requested by appropriate SHCA and/or college LSC
Internal: Responsible directly to the Academic Support, Community Engagement Officer, and the Registered Manager
External: When on site at the college or performing duties within the college, staff are responsible to the Learning Support Coordinator
